Hair Transplant: How Does It Work

Dr. Parsa Mohebi, Medical Director of Parsa Mohebi Hair Restoration, describes the hair restoration process in this informative video. Potential hair loss patients are first evaluated and recommended treatment based on diagnostic tests determining the patient’s classification of hair loss, likely progression, donor supply, and pattern of hair loss. A hair transplant procedure usually involves transplanting hair from the back of and sides of the head where the hair is permanent, to the front of the head where there is thinning.  The two most popular hair transplant procedures are Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE).  In a FUT, or Strip Procedure, the doctor will remove a strip of skin in order to harvest groups of hairs. The FUE Procedure involves the extraction of individual hairs which can be done manually or with an automated device. The FUT Procedure allows the doctor to harvest more hair grafts per session than with FUE, but could lead to minor swelling after the procedure.  The results of both procedures should be undetectable.
